The United Service Organizations (USO) marks its 85th anniversary this month (February), continuing a legacy of supporting military personnel that began in 1941.
To honor the legacy of the American USO organization and to celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the USO, DeKalb AMVETS Post 90 and HyVee (Sycamore Store), with support from the DeKalb County Veterans Recognition Fund and The General John Stark Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), DeKalb (IL), will be offering a FREE Cup of Coffee and 1 Free Donut on Saturday morning, February 28 at both the AMVETS Post (421 Oak Street-DeKalb, IL) and in front of the HyVee Gas Station (2700 DeKalb Ave,-Sycamore, IL).
For our veterans and current military, the USO has been a welcome beacon of home when stationed around the world or the friendly spot at many airport, applause is not enough to honor the many people who assist with the USO and provide that cup of coffee and a donut.
USO was founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide morale and recreational services to personnel and their families. The organization provides services around the world, both inside and outside combat zones. You will find a USO retreat in many airports.
Celebrities from all walks of life have collaborated with the USO to entertain the troops. Bob Hope is the most famous USO performer, with over 60 tours. Other big names include Toby Keith, Gary Sinise, and Marilyn Monroe. Watch for a ‘save-the-date’ notice for a special USO Show coming to DeKalb County later this year.
Special NOTE: Open to current military, veterans, and First Responders. Please Share.
