Paul Barnaby is a familiar name in DeKalb County — and for good reason. A Sycamore native, Paul graduated from Sycamore High School in 1966 before attending DeVry Institute of Technology, where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving proudly as a communications specialist at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. from 1969 to 1972.
Following his service, Paul furthered his education at Kishwaukee College and went on to teach marketing and computer courses at both Kishwaukee and Northern Illinois University’s Summer Institute. His passion for technology and education was only the beginning of a long and impactful career.
For over 50 years, Paul dedicated himself to the family business, eventually becoming owner and president of Barnaby Printing, Barnaby Computers, and Barnaby Select Services. His contributions extended far beyond business — he’s been an active member of the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce, served as president of the DeKalb County Crime Stoppers, and has been a proud Rotarian since 1979.
Paul’s life has been full of adventure. From traveling across the country to attending hundreds of concerts as a devoted rock-and-roll fan, he’s embraced every opportunity to live life to the fullest. Locally, many remember him for installing some of the first computers in DeKalb County, printing countless business materials, and providing essential services to support local companies. You might even spot him at Ski’s, and other local sports bars indulging his love for music on the TouchTunes jukebox.
Today, retirement isn’t in Paul’s vocabulary. He continues to support the community by connecting homes and businesses with reliable, high-speed fiber internet and phone services through Metronet. With its all-fiber network, Metronet ensures fast downloads, crystal-clear calls, and dependable service for everyday needs. Paul is helping a number of business update their technology to faster speeds with lower prices from Metronet.
If you haven’t had the chance to meet Paul yet, chances are you will soon. And when you do, you’ll quickly see why he remains such a valued part of the community.
