Friends of the Library Meeting

Senior Book Club: Slaughterhouse Five

Meet with us the second Tuesday of every month for a book club just for seniors. We will be discussing Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Due to a chrono synclastic infundibulum, Billy Pilgrim has become “unstuck in time.” In this, Kurt Vonnegut’s classic fusion of history and science fiction, he retells one of the many lesser known stories of WWII in the author’s signature style, bringing historical events to life and redefining the very nature of time. Billy Pilgrim doesn’t remember his life, he actually lives his whole life over and over, including his time in a German prisoner-of-war camp during the fire-bombing of Dresden, and his end time on the planet Tralfamadore with Montana Wildhack. Join us to talk about one of the most analyzed & studied classics of modern times. Books will be available in the Adult Services department. Grief Support Group

Join others going through grief and loss and receive support in a safe and confidential setting with facilitation from the Family Service Agency of DeKalb County. In this ongoing grief support group, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences with grief, receive insight from peers and the facilitator on the grieving process, and learn more about grief. This group is open to adults experiencing grief from any loss, no matter where they are on this journey. This grief support group does not replace other mental health services. If you need individual counseling or other mental health services, call 211 to find support in your area. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or need immediate attention for a non-life-threatening mental health need, please call 988. Poetry Writing Workshop

Candle Making 101

Healthy Aging with Home Instead: Hydration

Cricut Cutting: Greeting Cards

This class uses the Cricut Machine and Design Space. We will make cutaway greeting cards! BARB Book Club: Dragons in a Bag

Guided Gesture Drawing

It’s the fourth year of Stories & a Stroll with the DeKalb County Forest Preserve! Just like in years past, the DeKalb Public Library children’s librarians will lead a short nature-themed story time, and then naturalists with the DeKalb County Forest Preserve will take us on an approximately 40-minute guided hike. This month’s hike is by the wetlands of Wilkinson-Renwick Marsh. There are no bathrooms at Wilkinson, so please plan ahead! There is no registration required for this program.
