Welding only requires a diploma/g.e.d and they make more than that. College isn’t always relevant! You have skills, you make money. It doesn’t mention pension and healthcare because it’s a part time position and they have no obligation to offer it.
If you read the job description, much more is required than manual skills. Actually it requires a much higher level of fuctioning to interpret codes and communicate with authorities and the public. Maybe the educational requirement should be raised. Or maybe it’s just more of the usual “public service” kind of rackets. 🙂
And $22.58/hr. for a job that requires only a high school diploma! Wow. The job description doesn’t mention pension and health care insurance. No wonder budgets are stressed everywhere, including the taxpayers.
This is great and all, but is Sycamore experiencing such a problem to really justify this? I hardly ever see poorly kept properties in Sycamore as I drive through. I somewhat understand the Crime Free Housing TF thing DeKalb had. I only see them driving around and crime seems to be on the rise, so I’m not quite sure of their purpose and effectiveness. Seems to me that we could be slimming things and save taxpayers some money instead of expanding.

Sadly, there are many homes in our town that empty and an eyesore. Some not empty with poor upkeep. One home is directly behind me and has been vacant and unkept for over 6 years. It has a rotting roofs and holes covered by a not so beautiful tarp, gutters falling off, raccoons living in roof, and weeds 6 & 7 foot high. We wanted to buy it, had other people interested and the bank doesn’t care and won’t work w/ anyone. Someone needs to ride these people to bring homes up to code and not let people take advantage of ordinances. Sad, but true.
