WLBK Freezin’ For Food Sets Goal of 25,000 lbs.
The DeKalb County community is encouraged to help their neighbors by making a donation to the Blackhawk Moving and Storage, WLBK Freezin’ for Food drive. The 15th annual collection for the food pantry at the DeKalb Salvation Army kicks off at noon this Wednesday, December 2nd and continues until noon on Saturday, December 5th.
No matter how cold it gets, WLBK Morning Show Host T.D. Ryan will stay at the collection site in the Target-Aldi shopping center on Sycamore Road, next to Starbucks. He’ll broadcast live all day on WLBK to encourage donations, and will even sleep in a camper at the collection site.
“It can get very cold, but I’m always encouraged by the generosity of DeKalb County,” said Ryan, who has led the drive since it began. “With so many families struggling, we need the community’s support more than ever.”
This year’s goal is 25,000 pounds of non-perishable food items surpassing last year’s collection of more than 24,000 pounds of food. Ryan will weigh each donation and load them into a Go Minis container supplied by Blackhawk Moving and Storage. As the containers are filled, they’re driven directly to the Salvation Army Food Pantry in DeKalb.
Large donations are expected from several local schools and businesses, but the goal will not be met without many individual contributions. If the drive is successful, it will keep the shelves of the food pantry full for several months, allowing the Salvation Army Food Pantry to serve families throughout DeKalb County.
