Women and the Underground Railroad

Join the folks from the Sycamore History Museum this Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. for the first in three programs exploring the Underground Railroad. NIU’s Dr. Gyant will explore How I made Ov’ah: Women and the Underground Railroad. She will explore women’s role in the Underground Railroad nationally and touch upon some local examples.

The program will be held at the DeKalb County Community Foundation’s Freight Room, 475 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore. Cost is $5 per person.

The second program in the series will be Quilts and the Underground Railroad on Wednesday, March 18th, at 7pm. Barbara Samulowitz will share her research along with sample quilts and quilt squares during her programs. Samuelowitz led this talk several years ago, and there was a full house. SHM is excited to have her offer this program again as part of the Underground Railroad series.

The grand finale of the Underground Railroad series is on Friday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. Pamela Welcome is presenting, “Harriet Tubman.” Her program is a heart rendering, emotional performance. The evening is the Museum’s Winter Fundraiser and will also have a cash bar-hosted by Taxco and a silent auction. Dessert and coffee are included in the ticket price.
