The DeKalb County Tribute to Heroes fundraising event for the Boy Scouts of DeKalb County takes the time every year to single out some absolutely outstanding members of our County and recognize them for such a wonderful contribution they have made to the citizens of DeKalb County.
The evening starts off with being greeted by around 20 Boy Scouts as guests enter a room beautifully catered with tables full of appetizers by Sunflower Gourmet. The event itself begins with an opening ceremony by the DeKalb County Marine Detachment and a solo rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by State Senator Brad Burzynski. The President of the Three Fires Council always takes the time to say a few words and asks all the past Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who are in attendance to stand up to be recognized.
Each Honoree will have a chance to talk about their experiences and then they will each in turn be presented with a US Flag that has touched all four corners of our County and that has even been flown at the DeKalb County Courthouse. They will also be presented with a plaque commemorating the event. Each of these presentations will be given by our local Marine Detachment and a Boy Scout. Before the closing ceremony, a presentation is shown in honor of our local active duty soldiers and veterans. Lastly, there is a closing ceremony as the colors are retired and a final solo of God Bless America, and everyone in attendance will receive a nice memento of a Boy Scout coin as a thank you for coming out.
