Spc. Trevor A. Elliott of the 148th Quartermaster Company, 240th QM Battalion, 49th QM Group, stationed at Ft. Lee, Va., is a true soldier. When he meets an obstacle in his way he overcomes it.
Art galleries in Chicago, New York and California praised his work but rejected his request to display it because he didn’t have the “appropriate credentials” as he lacked an art degree. This was in 2008 which is the year he returned from his second deployment to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division as a petroleum supply specialist.
Elliott is a student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, majoring in interior design. He is using his art to build a bridge between Fort Lee soldiers and people in nearby communities. He has launched Soldiers for the Arts in hopes of creating a collaborative exhibit and generating funds that will help military artists have access to the materials they need to create and present their art to the public.
A 2003 graduate of DeKalb High School, Elliott was in the DHS art program for four years. His works were recognized in many exhibitions and competitions primarily during his senior year, including a group high school senior exhibition at DeKalb Gallery. A major accomplishment as an artist was placing 1st Place and Best of Show at the Upstate Eight Conference Art Show.
