On Tuesday November 5th, 2013, at approximately 7:30 pm a M/B subject wearing a mask entered the Shell Station, 308 N. 7th Street, DeKalb. This subject approached the cashier, jumped over the counter and demanded money while armed with a handgun. After obtaining money, the suspect fled on foot away from the business.
DeKalb Police Department responded and began processing the scene. In addition the evidence obtained from the scene, surveillance video recorded the event. A combination of what was learned at the scene, investigative efforts, and community assistance, the DeKalb Police Department learned that Lutha T. Wallace was responsible for the robbery. A warrant was issued for Wallace for the offenses of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), and Aggravated Robbery (Class 1 Felony). Bond was set at $750,000 dollars.
DeKalb Police Department learned that Wallace had fled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa following the robbery. Detectives from DeKalb Police Department met with officers from Cedar Rapids, IA, where they located and arrested Wallace. Wallace will be extradited back to Illinois shortly.
Evidence including Wallace’s clothing, and gun were recovered during the investigation of this case.
