This Sunday, September 9th, “Follow Through” the 10th and FINAL Gavin Wilson Show will be presented at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown DeKalb starting at 7:00pm. Ten years after Gavin Wilson started producing an annual variety show as a benefit for the Egyptian Theatre, he is staging his last performance in the series. “My kids are older, and moving along in their lives. Ten seems like a good round number to go out with a bang” Says Gavin.
This year the show is going all out! A very special tribute will be made to Dee Palmer and many of the directors that have made DeKalb area so rich with talent and performances. Gavin has hired an orchestra to perform Rhapsody in Blue with his father Gordy as the featured pianist. Linc Smelser will direct members of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra for this well loved classic by George Gershwin.
Also performing is John Skillman w/the Barb City Stompers, John Smith with Shananigans, Jazz in Progress a newly formed jazz band already lighting up the stage and directed by David Lehman, Dreamers Childrens’ Theatre, The Conley Trio, Soloists Barb McCaskey, Denny Vaupel, Cheryl Johnson, Holden Wilson, Adam Wilson, Guitar artist Roger Hintzsche, Magician William Gogo, Dancers Christie Coran and Anna Butler, and many other special surprises. Gavin’s best stuffed rabbit Nelson will also make an appearance.
Wilson adds: “You can expect all new music from Big Band, Broadway and popular artists this year, great magic tricks, ventriloquism, comedy, family fun and an exciting evening for all ages.”
Some of the featured music this year: Stardust, Bridge over Troubled Water, Aint that A Kick in the Head, Mack the Knife, God Bless America, songs by Maroon 5 and the Beatles, Louis Armstrong (Gavin does a dead on impression of Satchmo!) and Frank Sinatra.
