The folks at Shabbona Lakeside say that they want the State of Illinois Record Muskie back at Shabbona Lake. They must want it bad because if you catch the first new State of Illinois Record Muskie at Shabbona Lake this weekend, Lakeside Bait, Tackle, and Boat Rental will give you a new 9.9 HP 4 stroke electric start long shaft Yamaha outboard engine valued at $2,800!
Shabbona Lake is the home of six State of Illinois record fish. To their knowledge, there is no other lake in Illinois that has two or more state records, let alone six!
The current Muskie record is 38 pounds, 8 ounces. Pokanoka’s Cafe will be open Saturday and Sunday for its famous dollar days from 11am-4pm. Shabbona Lake State Park is located at 4201 Shabbona Grove Road, in Shabbona. Visit their website now. The Muskie record weekend rules are listed below:
Muskie Record Weekend Rules
1. You must sign in at bait shop each day you are fishing to be eligible for grand prize.
2. State record muskie must be caught at Shabbona Lake between Friday April 13, 2012 starting at 6:00 AM and Sunday April 15, 2012 ending at 7:00 PM.
3. State record walleye must be caught at Shabbona Lake between Friday April 20, 2012 starting at 6:00 AM and Sunday April 22, 2012 ending at 7:00 PM.
4. State record fish may be caught during the following hours: Friday 6AM to 10PM, Saturday 6AM to 10PM, and Sunday 6AM to 7PM.
5. Lakeside will be open from 6AM to 7PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We will have a tank and aerator on a boat to come to you if you would like to try and keep fish alive.
6. If you catch a record fish during bait shop hours call (815) 824 2581 to notify us.
7. If you catch a record fish after the bait shop is closed please call Clint at (815) 739 6707 or Denny at (815) 970 3107.
