Digital Lenses or commonly known as HD lens are quite simply a whole new process of making lenses. The traditional way which still works fine for some, is eventually going to be replaced by this new process. Advanced Family Eyecare in Sycamore is proud to now offer HD or more accurately, Digital Lenses, to our community.
Instead of making a elliptical curve made up of one to two set curves, an individualized designed lens is made for the patient and the frame that you and your optician chose combined with critical measurements taken by the optician. Literally, hundreds of little micro prescriptions are made on the backside of the lens to compensate for your power and the distance your eye is away from the back of the lens. This allows for a wider reading area with less distortion on the periphery. You could say clearer from edge to edge. This allows also clearer night vision, better color differentiation and over all more comfortable, safer, clearer vision. The lenses can be ground thinner for aesthetics also.
Another benefit of Digital Lenses is that more lens options are available. This is because they start with a single vision blank. In the eyeglasses industry, single vision blanks come in the most abundant styles from clear plastic to 1.67 polarized ruby, which is an uber thin lens but only in single vision, so if you have a bifocal prescription you are out of luck. But with this digital processing, they start with that single vision blank and customize and create a no line bifocal for you. The sky will be the limit in a few short years in the opinion of Advanced Family Eyecare.
Unfortunately as with any new technology, the initial products can be expensive. However, the technology as expensive as it is now, is indeed already coming down in price. This means that more patients can experience the fantastic results of this new technology. Smaller labs can now purchase the equipment to produce these lenses in an hour. (which Advanced Family Eyecare hopes to be doing in 2012).
This technology is great for small prescription, higher astigmatism, and high powered lenses as well as for people who just feel their vision could be a little bit clearer. HD vision is not as expensive as some retailers have been marketing. Advanced Family Eyecare does not oppose or apologize for high priced new technology ever, but when the market changes so should the prices and that is what they intend to continue doing. Eventually this process will become the standard in eyecare. But for the opportunity to see better, an additional 50 to 75 dollars every 12 to 24 months is worth it to many. If you wear your glasses every day for 18 months, that is less than a penny a day! Of course none of this technology is worth a hill of beans without a thourough eye exam performed by a skilled optometrist like Dr. Miranda at Advanced Family Eyecare. Dr. Miranda will take the additional measurements needed by a dispensing optician, which are critical to be passed on to the lab opticians.
