Observations and comments about state government by State Representative Robert W. Pritchard.
Illinois has been molded and directed by the influence of many cultures including our Welch heritage which we celebrate on March 1. This day is recognized as St. David’s Day in Illinois with the wearing of daffodils, eating Welch foods and honoring the persistence and hard work of Welch ancestors.
Many towns and counties are named for Welch settlers and the first mayor of Chicago was a Welchman–Thomas Jefferson Vance Owen. Others have influenced the arts, entertainment, business, and architecture like world famous Frank Lloyd Wright.
In honor of my ancestors who settled in the Hinckley-Big Rock area, I will be sharing Welch cakes with legislators and staff in Springfield. Enjoy! District Office 815-748-3494 or E-Mail to bob@pritchardstaterep.com
