Kishwaukee College will be hosting a presentation by Dr. April Clark on Thursday, March 31 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.in Room A1225. Dr. Clark, an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Northern Illinois University, will be presenting on Women and Politics: Engagement, Leadership and Perceptions. Her presentation is free and open to the public. Attendees should use the south parking lot (Lot A) and enter through doors #16 or #17.
In her presentation, Dr. Clark will be discussing changes in the status of women in political life, devoting particular attention to participation patterns as well as public perceptions and media portrayals of women as candidates for public office. She will conclude with some reflections on the gendered nature of the political sphere and what recent shifts in American public opinion and politics might mean for women as a group and for the larger society.
In addition to being an Assistant Professor at NIU, Dr. Clark is a Senior Associate at the Center for Governmental Studies and specializes in the development of political attitudes and behavior with a particular focus on group differences. She has published on a number of topics including social capital, interpersonal trust, and democratic norm support. Her research has appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, The Huffington Post, NBC.com, and other national and local media outlets. Dr. Clark was previously a research associate at the Pew Research Center (Social and Demographic Trends and the People and the Press).
