On Tuesday 11/04/14 the DeKalb Police Department responded to WalMart, located at 2300 Sycamore Road, for a report of a subject that was in possession of a gun inside the store. The reporting party advised they believed this suspect approached a male customer with the firearm in a threatening manner. The reporting party notified an employee who contacted police.
The alleged suspect and victim were not immediately located on officers’ arrival. After viewing the store’s video surveillance, officers were able to locate the alleged victim in this case. The alleged victim, who is elderly, advised he requested the assistance from a customer in the store (alleged suspect). He advised after he received the help he needed, he and the customer parted ways. The victim advised he never observed a firearm, nor did the alleged suspect threaten him in any way. Video surveillance corroborates the alleged victim’s statements. No firearm was observed on video surveillance. The incident is unfounded.
