Hello and welcome to the Mayo Mansion. The building that started in 1897 has been the home of Dr Mayor, The Elks, Hearing Help, Koolidge for Congress and ARMOR over the years. This was also the location of the first log cabin that started what is now DeKalb. The building has needed a lot of maintenance from the years. Since ARMOR has moved in both roofs have been replaced, walls repaired, much of the stone work has been rebuilt but the building has a long way to go.
The building is currently hosting a Terrian Art Project through Northern Illinois University contacts.
The building needs more help. We are currently working to fix the front porches main supports for the over hang. If you would like to help please spread the word that we are looking to rent space and we are selling some of the stone from the building.
The building is currently renting space for new businesses that are looking to have a great location at the second most traveled corner of DeKalb.
The building is selling pieces of left over Colorado sandstone. For some the stone can carry a memory of DeKalb for visiting this building or use it for meditation to help avoid distractions. Place Red Sandstone in the house to help balance emotions.
