Sycamore’s Cinco de Mayo festival is celebrating its 19th year as a family-friendly event for the entire community. The festival is a place for the community to gather and celebrate the Mexican heritage while enjoying live music, ethnic dancers, piñatas, pony rides, petting zoo, authentic Mexican cuisine, and fun that lasts into the night.
Hundreds of area residents visit the booths, games, and activities and learn about area non-profit agencies and local businesses in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Even more, all proceeds from the event are put back into the community through donations to local nonprofit agencies. Over the years, the Cinco de Mayo festival has raised over $135,000 for area nonprofit agencies.
Additionally, with $7,500 seed money, they have an endowment of over $45,000 with the DeKalb County Community Foundation for the Community Works Program. They also have an endowment with Kishwaukee College as a scholarship fund.
This year’s event will be held this Sunday, May 1st from 1-9 p.m. and again benefit local nonprofit organizations. It will be held on Bill Johnson Blvd. and Maple Street, in Downtown Sycamore, (behind 223 W. State Street). See you there!
