On September 12, the Park District will embark on a public fundraising campaign to help support its long-range plan, ACTION 2020. Leaf a Legacy’s goal of $1 million is only a fraction of ACTION 2020’s $13 million price tag. As Dan Gibble, Sycamore Park District Executive Director explains, “Leaf a Legacy is a chance for park users and supports to make an investment in a park district that ads so much to the high quality of life we all enjoy and strive to maintain in this growing community. It is their chance to leave a legacy.”
As a quiet campaign continued over the last year, Gibble states that he and the Board of Commissioners has been “pleased and humbled by the overwhelming generosity and signs of support from some of our community’s leaders, businesses, organizations and individuals.” On the eve of this public campaign, the District is excited to make public one of the largest Leaf a Legacy donations, to date. ENCAP, Inc. of DeKalb has pledged to contribute the materials and labor for the dog park landscaping and turf – a $50,000 donation! Gibble says, “We are very appreciative of this gift that has put us over $500,000 in the fundraising effort. Even more so, we think it is great that a local business made that happen!”
ENCAP, Inc. is a company that has had its roots here in the area for over 40 years. Melissa Wheeler, Operations Manager of ENCAP, Inc. says of the donation, “Our employees work, live and play here. There is nothing that makes us more proud than being able to contribute to a park that will integrate native plants into a fun public space. Not only do we get to help the environment by providing valuable habitat, but we get to share what we love with the community.” This thoughtful and generous gift will bloom into a beautiful and sustainable landscape to be cherished by users and passersby for many years to come. Its hardy native plants will be able to withstand a romp by a feisty pooch while offering an aesthetic natural screenings mechanism from the road and other site amenities.
Along with this exciting announcement, the Park District is kicking off its Leaf a Legacy fundraising campaign with, what else, but a FUNraiser! On September 10, 2016 the Sycamore Park District Board of Commissioners, invites adults to come be a kid again at the Good Tymes Revival. This fundraiser features Howl at the Moon’s all request dueling pianos, food, cash bar and lots of surprises. Ted Strack, Park District Board President gives a teaser of more good news to come: “We will have a few more announcements of gifts that will send us past that 60% mark, and well on our way to our $1,000,000 goal.”
The Good Tymes Revival is for Ages 21+. $50 ticket includes 1 drink and all food and activities. Doors open at 6:30pm, music from 7-10pm. All proceeds from the ticket sales support Leaf a Legacy. Special thanks to the following sponsors: Upstaging, Banner Up Signs, Provident Direct, OLT Marketing, B95, and Olympia Chiropractic.
Like all Leaf a Legacy contributions and pledges made in 2016, 50% of the ENCAP donation and Good Tymes Revival proceeds will be matched by an anonymous donor. Contributions may be made as a onetime gift or in increments over the span of up to five year.
