KishHealth System Hospice will be offering its next Volunteer Orientation and Training class September 8th through October 14th, 2014, at the KishHealth System Hospice office, 2727 Sycamore Rd., DeKalb. The class is open to all individuals interested in becoming Hospice direct care volunteers and those who simply want to learn more about the special, end-of-life care provided by KishHealth System Hospice.
Important characteristics of direct care volunteers include compassion, flexibility, the ability to listen, the desire to make a difference and enrich the lives of others. The orientation and training will provide an overview of the history and philosophy of hospice. Additionally, it will guide and support class members as they explore end-of-life issues, dying, and grieving and help them learn how to respond to the social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the terminally ill and their families. The goal of the Hospice team is to help each person enjoy the best quality of life possible.
The training class will be held on Tuesdays, from 6 to 9 pm, Sept. 8 through Oct. 14. A registration fee of $20 helps cover the cost of materials. Scholarships are available. Advance registration is required by Friday, Sept. 5. To register for the class or for more information, call Sue Goudy, Volunteer/Transitions coordinator for KishHealth System Hospice, at 815.756.3000.
