Kishwaukee College students competed in the 50th National SkillsUSA Leadership Conference and SkillsUSA Championships held in Kansas City, MO on June 23 – 27. Four students who earned First Place honors at the Illinois statewide SkillsUSA Competition in April advanced to compete at the National championship against first-place finishers from across the country. Mike Zimbrich, Darien, competed in Power Equipment Technology, placing 17th team of Susanna Herrmann, Malta, Penny Ingalls, Sycamore, and Emerald Fannin, Sycamore, competed in Crime Scene Investigation, placing 6th
Kishwaukee College Criminal Justice instructor Dave Dammon stated, “It was the first time since I have been a part of the program that we have sent a Criminal Justice team to Nationals and it was a huge honor and learning opportunity for all of us. The team put in a lot of extra effort and work to prepare for the contest and they were highly successful. I look forward to working with the team next year as all three students are returning to Kishwaukee and I hope they can also return to SkillsUSA Nationals in 2015. They did an incredible job!”
SkillsUSA is a national, state, regional, and local organization for technical, skilled, health and personal service occupations’ students in high school and college. SkillsUSA has over 320,000 members at over 3,600 chapters in 54 state and territorial associations including Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. In Illinois, there are seven regions with approximately 3500 members organized into 125 chapters across the state.
