During the days surrounding Memorial Day, May 23rd-27th, 2014, the campus of Kaneland High School will be transformed into a Healing Field® as more than a thousand, three by five foot United States flags, fly from eight foot white flagstaffs on the field just east of the school.
Healing Field flag displays follow the pattern established by the Colonial Flag Foundation where communities all over our nation have honored the veterans and military who have sacrificed their time, talents and even their very lives in defense of our freedom.
Each sponsored flag has a story and honors a hero who is identified by an attached name tag.
At the conclusion of the Healing Field® display, sponsored flags are taken home and displayed as a continuing reminder of service to our nation.
The Maple Park Legion invites all to be a viable part of this display by sponsoring flags to honor their family members, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances who have given our nation so much; their service deserves to be acknowledged, honored and remembered. Present a flag in honor of all who serve and sacrifice, and at the end of the event take the flag home, to your business or present it to your hero, neighbor, or friend to fly and continue the tribute year round. Businesses, organizations and church groups are encouraged to consider being a sponsor as a way to honor and give thanks to those brave men, women and their families.
Walk with them among the flags. Those who have visited a Healing Field® event before know what to expect and they will not be disappointed. Those visiting their first Healing Field flag display will feel an uplifting and healing experience that must be lived to appreciate.
