One of the many traditions of the holiday season is pie for dessert, but our busy lives can make it difficult to find the time to make one from scratch. For the fourth year in a row, Pay-It-Forward House in Sycamore and the Joseph F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center in DeKalb are partnering to provide easy dessert pies from Market Day.

A portion of the price of each pie sold will help pay for operating costs at Pay-it-Forward House or the Glidden Homestead. “If we sell 500 or more pies, we receive 45 percent of the pre-tax price for our organizations. This will be the ninth year that we’ve sold the Market Day desserts that arrive just in time for the holidays,” explained Kathy Overby, Pay-it-Forward House board member and pie sale chair.
Four years ago the two organizations decided to join forces to reach their goal to sell 500 desserts.
“It’s a win-win for everyone involved. It is much easier for our two small organizations when we work together to sell 500 pies than when we were each trying to do this separately,” said Marcia Wilson, Glidden Homestead executive director. “We make more money to help our organizations and our supporters get great products to enjoy. We couldn’t be happier with the results of our collaboration.”
A variety of frozen pies are available. Orders are due by Thursday, Nov. 11, and will arrive in time for Thanksgiving. Pick-up is available from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore or at the Glidden Homestead, 921 W. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb. Buyers can choose the location most convenient for them when they order.
