
Shane Bays
The DeKalb Park District is excited to announce that Shane Bays will be joining the District as the Superintendent of Golf early next month. Shane comes to the District with an extensive background in sports turf management and golf course management that includes time working at Northern Illinois University, the North Shore Country Club and the Rockford Park District. His most recent experience is as the Golf Course Superintendent of the Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford, one of the top rated municipal golf courses in the state.
Shane commented, “What a great opportunity and privilege, I am very excited to join the DeKalb Park District team. I look forward to working with current staff in creating a great golf experience in 2016 and beyond!”
Bays grew up grew up in the Rochelle area and attended Rochelle Township High School. His interest in sports turf maintenance grew from the countless hours of practice at local golf courses. After his high school golf career, Shane continued his education at Kishwaukee College and earned his Associates in Sports Turf/Ornamental Horticulture.
Throughout his career Bays has helped oversee the preparation and maintenance of golf courses in preparation for a variety of tournaments including the Illinois Men’s State Amateur, the Illinois Senior State Amateur, and the Rockford Men’s Classic.
Jason Mangum, Executive Director of the DeKalb Park District stated, “I am excited about the expertise, skills, and direction that Shane will provide to the River Heights and Buena Vista Golf Courses. Shane is a highly motivated individual that will bring enthusiasm and passion to his work at the District’s golf courses.”
