At their respective meetings on April 16th, 2015, the DeKalb Park District Board of Commissioners and their counterparts in Sycamore adopted a joint resolution which highlights the districts’ willingness to cooperate on the provision of services for its residents. The Resolution, which calls for creating a cooperative relationship between the two agencies, is showing support by DeKalb Park District for its neighbor, the Sycamore Park District, as it goes through some growing pains.
Currently Sycamore Park District residents pay non-resident fees for DeKalb Park District programs and vice versa. Beginning July 1, 2015, the Sycamore Park District will be without a community center until it completes construction on a new facility that was supported by a recent referendum. In a spirit of cooperation and collaboration between the two entities, the DeKalb Park District will permit residents of the Sycamore Park District to participate in recreation programs in the areas of martial arts, fitness, early childhood and cultural arts at resident rates from August 1, 2015 until August 1, 2017. This agreement does not extend to athletic programs, outdoor pool use or golf course use, however.
Cooperative agreements among neighboring park districts are common, and benefit residents by strengthening programs and providing access to programs and facilities. The agreement builds upon a foundation of cooperation and saving tax dollars.
