The City of DeKalb has made it easier than ever to request documents and other information via its website. Interactive Freedom of Information Act Request forms have been launched, which allow users to file a FOIA request from any computer or mobile device with access to the City’s website.
The forms, which are sent directly to City-wide or Police Department FOIA officers, are meant to streamline the request process and ensure staff representatives receive all necessary information for processing FOIA requests effectively.
“We want people to know what information is needed to make processing easy, which ensures a quick turnaround on these requests for public information,” said Mayor John Rey.
Although the City encourages the use of the online forms for submitting requests, they will also be accepted through the traditional, legally-required channels.
“We are excited about passing on enhanced functionality to users,” said Jared Heyn, the City’s Primary FOIA Officer. “It will also make our internal process more efficient.”
