We would all love a spacious kitchen that fits every item we need, while maintaining a neat and attractive appearance. But most of us work in kitchens with limited space, so it’s important to plan carefully for storage to avoid cluttering up cooking and serving areas.
Atherton Appliance & Kitchens offers informative, enjoyable, and educational professional design services that are, best of all, free of charge. We would be happy to discuss space-saving solutions for your kitchen if you stop by our showroom. We can even show you beautiful space saving appliances or organizers that will complement your kitchen’s décor. For example:
- Downsview Kitchens and Fine Custom Cabinetry offers a wide variety of drawer inserts to help you neatly arrange cutlery, utensils, spices, and other miscellaneous items. Take a look at their online accessories page for numerous space-saving ideas.
- Trash compactors from companies such as Broan can reduce waste by up to 80%, meaning less space is needed in your kitchen for garbage. Almost everything normally tossed into your kitchen garbage can be placed in a trash compactor, with the exception of paint, oil, aerosol cans and other such hazardous materials.
- Under-counter beverage storage centers, like the options offered by Viking, are great space savers.
- Built-in refrigerators, including this 36″ Fully Integrated Built-In Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator from Jenn-Air, will save space compared to large, free-standing refrigerators.
- An over-the-range microwave, like the HMV5051U from Bosch will save counter space.
- Avoid cluttering up counter space with bottles by installing a wine storage unit, like the RW 414/464: 18/24-inch wine storage units from Gaggenau.
In addition to adding some of the great space saving appliances, in-cabinet organizers, and storage units available to our customers, consider some of the following design tips to best utilize the space in your kitchen:
- Construct floor-to-ceiling shelving in your pantry, with shelf spacers designed for a variety of food types and containers. This will help your pantry stay organized, and will keep items off of your kitchen counters and out of crowded cabinets.
- Consider a built-in bench seat, with a table for seating. For additional space savings, include storage space beneath the bench.
- Install a hutch for extra storage – some hutches even have a special niche for a flat-screen television.
- Add a kitchen island that has ample storage space.
- Install base cabinets with pull-out shelves and full-extension drawers.
- Think about adding small apothecary drawers alongside the range.
- Install a wall-mounted spice rack, and hang other items on walls to spare storage space (attach hooks for hanging mugs, for example).
- Use the inside of cabinet doors for note space. If you install a metal sheet, you can use magnets to post memos and recipes. This will avoid the cluttered look caused by hanging magnets and notes all over the refrigerator door.
- Attach hooks inside the door beneath the sink, so you can hang brushes and other cleaning items.
- Attach a small bin inside a lower cabinet for collecting plastic bags, so they don’t pile up in a corner or doorway.
- Add a small utility shelf above the sink for dishwashing and other items.
From cabinetry choices to built-in appliances, smart shelving, and specially designed storage units, there are numerous ways to maximize space in even the smallest kitchen. Stop by one of our showrooms today for more ideas!
