The City of DeKalb seeks applicants to join the newly comprised Economic Development Commission (EDC), which will assist with development of the City’s tax base and economy. The EDC’s role is to ascertain and understand the needs of business, so their viewpoint can be taken into consideration as public policy is developed.
Economic Development Commission members will represent a variety of fields, including, but not limited to, agribusiness, banking, finance, community organizations, education, industrial, medical, real estate, construction, real estate development, retail, tourism, hospitality, and workforce development.
A minimum of four of the six members, plus the commission chair, must be DeKalb residents; the two remaining members may reside elsewhere, but they must work in DeKalb.
The first course of business to be undertaken by the EDC will be a 90-day Strategic Planning Process to create a written economic development plan for the City. It is envisioned that the plan will provide additional direction for the economic development related items contained within the City Council’s 2025 Strategic Plan as it relates to support of healthy business districts throughout the City and will address City-wide needs for commercial, industrial, and retail development.
Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of City Council. Interested residents should submit an application, available online at http://cityofdekalb.com/DocumentCenter/View/4133 or letter of interest to Ellen Divita, Director of Community Development at 200 S. Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115, or ellen.divita@cityofdekalb.com. She may be reached at 815 748-2361 for any questions.
