All three Illinois Valley Community Colleges music ensembles will perform in separate holiday concerts in December.
The Choir opens the week of entertainment on Monday, Dec. 1, followed by the Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and the Wind Ensemble on Thursday, Dec. 4. The free public performances all begin at 7 p.m. and take place in the Dr. Mary Margaret Weeg Cultural Centre.
Under the direction of Jenilyn Roether, the Choir will perform selections that include: “How Can I Stop Singing My Song?”; “David’s Lamentation;” “Every Night When the Sun Goes In;” “Jesus Child;” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom;” “A Garland of Carols,” and the “Hallelujah Chorus.” Soloists will be Amanda Hines, Aimee Brandner and Em Clark performing “Quella Fiamma,” “Sento nel core,” and “Pie Jesu.” They are accompanied on piano by Mary Cornwall.
Under the direction of Brandon Czubachowski, the Jazz Ensemble will perform “Theme from The Rockford Files;” “Vehicle;” “50s Medley;” “Adeste Fideles;” “A Disney Fantasy;” “House of the Rising Sun;” “The Nutcracker Suite,” and “Auld Lang Syne.” Featured soloists are Evan Farrell on piano in three numbers, and baritone saxophonist Fred Davis on “The Nutcracker Suite.”
Under the direction of Phil Whaley, the Wind Ensemble will perform “Celebration Fanfare;” “Rhosymedre” (or “Lovely”); “Christmas with Mozart;” “Silver Sleigh;” “Symphony No. 1 ‘The Lord of the Rings;” “Bay State March,” and “Farandole from ‘L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2.’”
The ensembles include IVCC students, community members, and area high school students.
