As we begin the winter season, please keep the safety of your home and your neighbor’s homes in mind. Although the heavy snowfall hasn’t started as early as it did last year, when it starts to pile-up it will make it very difficult for the fire department to locate fire hydrants if needed in an emergency. The Sycamore Fire Department would like to remind residents to take the initiative and adopt a hydrant near your home.
If you know of a hydrant that may be buried, please take the time to clear a 2-3 ft. area around the hydrant. A small path shoveled from the street to the hydrant also will also be very helpful. The Fire Department’s ability to quickly locate and use a nearby hydrant during a structure fire is essential to fire department operations. Your efforts will pay off big in the event of a fire emergency in your neighborhood. The Sycamore Fire Department invites volunteer organizations to participate in the “Adopt a Hydrant Program” as well. This is a great way for organizations to volunteer for community service.
