DeKALB – The Ellwood House Museum and DeKalb County History Center recently received a $20,000 grant from Healing Illinois to support their ongoing collaborative project, Arts in Action.
Since 2020, the museums have worked with researchers, community members, nonprofits, and artists to tell a more accurate and inclusive history of DeKalb County. Grant funding will be used to develop a new exhibition at the Ellwood House Museum, opening in June 2026, and two new public art installations celebrating Black and Latino history in DeKalb and Sycamore.
“It is so exciting to see this project grow,” said Audrey King, Assistant Director of Ellwood House Museum, “We are thankful for Healing Illinois’ continued support, and look forward to working with community members to explore history through artwork this year.”
More information, including past artwork, research, and resources is available on the project’s website, www.createchange.today.
Healing Illinois is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services in partnership with The Field Foundation of Illinois.
