Northwestern Medicine will host an Emergency Medical Services Symposium on Acute Stroke Care from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The symposium will be held at Elements Conference and Banquet Center, Homewood Suites by Hilton, 16235 South LaGrange Road in Orland Park, Ill.
This state-wide course will focus on the acute evaluation and management of the acute stroke patient, from the time the patient accesses the emergency medical services system through revascularization for ischemic stroke, and until bleeding control for hemorrhagic stroke.
State-of-the-art evaluation of acute stroke in the pre-hospital and emergency department setting will also be discussed, as well as innovative approaches in the endovascular, surgical and critical care management of the acute stroke patient.
The intended audience includes all practitioners who care for patients in the acute phase of stroke care, from emergency medical dispatchers, fire chiefs, emergency medical services providers, emergency physicians and nurses, neurology and neurocritical care providers and nurses, stroke coordinators, and neurointerventionalists.
At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:
· Understand the importance and role of pre-hospital practitioners in acute stroke systems of care
· Understand the importance of protocols and infrastructure at stroke centers for evaluation and management of acute stroke patients
· Understand that acute, time-sensitive interventions available for acute, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke centers
