The bigger that the TVs become, it seems the more that they need some type of audio support and augment. Since these high-tech TVs are getting thinner and thinner, the sound- particularly the bass- seems to be less satisfying. One way to resolve this issue effectively and affordably is with a soundbar or soundbase. The two devices are not the same thing, and each have their own distinct features.
When trying to decide between a soundbar and a soundbase, consider these three aspects:
Size
Soundbars are particularly thin and discreet. The slim size allows them to be hung, placed on narrow ledges, or placed in spots that a soundbase simply wouldn’t fit. The problem with a small size is that it doesn’t allow for as much bass as you may hear from a soundbase. Soundbases are a bit larger, shaped like a plate almost, and typically require positioning below the TV screen for the best audio output.
Sound
The size and shape of a soundbar provides a full, rounded output that might make it a good choice for a large den or family room. A soundbase inherently provides a rich sound with a lot of clarity. Either device will enhance your TV’s audio, but you should really take time to listen to each device before deciding which one suits you- and your ears- best.
Subwoofers
The slim size of a soundbar may make it necessary to consider investing in a separate subwoofer. This is not an issue with the soundbase, as the larger size doesn’t need the added subwoofer component. If you want to optimize the sound of a soundbar without the wiring and hassles of adding a subwoofer, consider checking out the wireless sub-woofers now widely available.
With the holidays approaching, it makes sense to glean some insight into soundbars and soundbases, as these are topping the gift-lists of many consumers this season. Depending on your priorities, it may make more sense to buy one of these two audio elements over the other. Talk with electronic retailers about the most pragmatic approach for your specific TV and added components.
