The City of DeKalb is in the process of studying the potential and strategy for a one-of-a-kind collaboration between the City, Northern Illinois University Center for P-20 Engagement, Proudly DeKalb, Inc. and the DeKalb Firefighters Historical Foundation that would provide DeKalb with a community learning center. This learning center collaboration will provide hands-on interactive experiences for all ages and will explore elements of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) as well as the history of the DeKalb community. The project team envisions a state of the art learning center which will attract a wide cross section of the population and will be a destination designed to bring visitors to DeKalb.
The STEAM Learning Center Project Team is interested in better understanding the priorities and needs of the community related to this potential innovative learning center. A survey has been established to solicit feedback from the community.
“The STEAM Learning Center is an exciting project for the community and aligns with many of the vision statements and goals of the DeKalb 2025 Strategic Plan.” said Mayor John Rey. “The project team is very interested in hearing from the community about their thoughts for the learning center and encourages all interested parties to complete the survey.”
The City welcomes input and invites community members to complete the survey which is available on the City’s website at . Results of the community’s feedback will help ensure a successful and inclusive project. The survey will be available until September 23rd.

Maybe the City of DeKalb will get rich and have the money to turn the old Otto’s building into the glorious envisioned site. It would be a boon to all of those affluent tenants of the grand condos to be erected on Lincoln Hwy.

As long as it doesn’t cost the taxpayer or the City any money I am all for it. Otherwise use the money to fix some streets.

Nothing in life is free, unless you’re a City of Dekalb employee.

Do what you do best raise taxs
