On Tuesday, June 21, IDOT Secretary Randy Blankenhorn announced the impacts on construction due to the lack of a FY2017 budget which begins on July 1. Without funding for transportation, all IDOT contracts including engineering and construction will be suspended as of June 30. Any local agency projects let through IDOT will also be suspended. This includes most federally funded projects. Contractors will still be responsible to maintain work zone protections as well as erosion and sediment controls.
Local agencies such as counties, townships, and municipalities will receive their June Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) payments but July and future payments will not be made until an IDOT budget is implemented.
Projects funded with local funds or with MFT funds already received may proceed. In DeKalb County, federally funded projects such as the Shabbona Road resurfacing between the villages of Shabbona and Malta, the Plank Road resurfacing between Illinois Route 23 and Lindgren Road, and the Melms Road bridge northeast of Genoa will be suspended until funding is released. On the Coltonville Road bridge project, the contractor and subcontractors are coordinating their work to hopefully get the road open prior to the shutdown.
Any questions or concerns can be addressed to the County Engineer at 1826 Barber Greene Road, DeKalb, IL 60115 or by calling 815-756- 9513.

So, how many of you complaining voted last November? Any of you vote for Rauner? Why are you surprised? Look at Kansas and Wisconsin, the results are quite clear.

I don’t understand this response? The state has a budget issue due to being $150,000,000,000 in the red, yet rather blame Madigan and Cullerton, guys who have been there the entire time, you’d rather blame the new guy? That’s a tad ignorant.

Rauner insisted on repealing the income tax increase. Rauner won’t sign a budget unless the unions are busted. Rauner wants the Chicago Schools to go bankrupt so he can void union contracts, etc.

Nooooo

And what is even more disgusting is that the contractor who bid the job, who had a good price as long as the project was on this original completion date for their progress schedule, the contractor is now suspended from starting, but will now be expected to still finish on schedule once IDOT has been given the green light to proceed after budget negotiations have been made. This happens every year. How does the State expect to help businesses stay in business when all they do is look for the best interest of the personal benefit of our legislators and not for the businesses that pay the insane amount of taxes.

And I suppose our state gov. is looking forward to their next pay raise.

Sure they are

Nicole; looks like we’ll still be taking the long route…

This project has been going on way too long and is absolutly absurd how long it is taking. Find new contractors and a new general because there is nothing good about the crews out there now.

David, guess that mess on 47 isn’t going to get finished….and I’m not holding my breath about Coltonville!

How many of us will end up voting these Jack offs back into office?

Jim Fiedler

OMG…what next

Anthony Alletto

This only affects state roads. Coltenville is not a state Route and shouldn’t be affected

It’s county but the road received funding through IDOT. Most county jobs receive their funding this way

Should of been last year

Oh so this will get all the attention yet our construction project has been shut down at NIU for over a year now because of no budget.

Yes

Except when they wanted to finish the Lucinda extension.

So does this affect rt 30 where there’s only one lane open?

Illinois is turning into a wasteland from years of political corruption!!

Indeed.

Dose that mean free toll’s. Their not working so we shouldn’t have to pay.

The tollway is not part of IDOT

Illinois department of transportation is not part of Illinois?

Jay Armes no jay, IDOT is funded thru taxes tollway is self funded by tolls

Ok, thanks. Learn something new everyday.

With that mess on rt. 30 near 47?! What a commuting nightmare that’s going to be

State has money at the moment every dollar they collect in taxes is sitting doing nothing. But without a budget they can’t spend it. Do none of you know how government financial things work. Yes they might owe a lot of money but they have cash sitting.

Trying to finish, its dam near been a year since they closed it, I almost forgot it was even a road

Coltonville Rd bridge is blacktopped now. Hoping they get the lanes striped soon.

I hope your right, I will believe it when I see it.

that means they have 4 business days left to stripe it.

I know it’s blacktopped. I’m not right about anything except that fact.

OOOOOHHH NOOOOO….BSN

Illinois Tollway projects will continue but what is crazy is how many state (IDOT) funded jobs just got underway when IDOT knew this was a very good possibilty. Wonder how this works with Federally funded roadwork IDOT is responsible to complete.

The lettings have all been slim….

I imagine the unemployment office will be busy. Great job Illinois!

Why has it taken so long in the first place? Ridiculousð

Because it is being built by IDOT and not a private road building contractor. Government can not do anything efficient and fast

There’s many many projects across the state including damage after crashes like safety barriers.

Many of those fixes are done because the driver’s insurance pays to have them repaired. There are some hit and runs but the liability the state is assuming by not repairing necessitates that they be repaired asap.

My son-in-law works for a contractor who replaces the steel barrier sections and the wire cables in the center of 4 lane highways. Illinois pays for that until the end of the month I guess.

So if they can’t fix our roads, we can’t pay their tolls.

Joshua Holder, IDOT is different from the Tollway Department. The Tollway Department is well funded through tolls. IDOT is a victim of the pissing match happening down in Springfield.

The Illinois Tollway is considered to be self funded, in the black financially, and current with their bills I understand.
There is also talk that the expressways around Chicago may become part of the tollway authority eventually such as the Elgin/OHare is about to become.

Boooo, Georg Svec, lol! Dammit man, I just wanna stamp my feet and threaten some nonsensical bs. Besides, look at all the people who agree with me, lol!

Joshua Holder sorry.

Lmao!

Whoever it is….they seem to forget it’s “taxpayers” money and they work for us!!!!!!!!!

Of course that’s it, the state is broke.

This is the dawning of the Age of Austerity, Age of Austerity, A-U-S-T-E-R-I-T-Y!

They aren’t paying anything how can they be broke?

Schuyler Biggs

At the rate this is going, Hoover Dam was built in less days…..omg.
