This Sunday, May 29th, beginning at 1 p.m., there will be a 25th anniversary re dedication of the Northern Illinois Veteran’s Memorial in Franklin Township Park. Each year on the Sunday before Memorial Day, they gather to celebrate Memorial Day in Kirkland.
Each year, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts participate in the program. Each year they have a guest speaker lined up to give their respective thoughts on what Memorial Day really stands for. They have had speakers ranging from local veterans to WWI Veterans and POW’S from WWII to Viet Nam and beyond. They have had General’s and Congressmen speak at the ceremony. For a small town, such as Kirkland, they consider this a big deal each year!
There will be a wreath Laying ceremony at the Memorial, and a bugler will do the Military Taps at programs end. Please try and join them this Sunday, May 29th at 1 p.m. at the stage in Franklin Township Park. Bring a lawn chair and prepare to be proud to share Memorial Day in Kirkland!
