The Fairview Park Cemetery Association and DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Association are partnering to host an open house and walking tour at the Fairview Cemetery, as well as tours of the cemetery’s historic and recently refurbished mausoleum. The event will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 28th.
The self-guided walking tours will feature an annotated map directing visitors to the gravesites of prominent citizens and explaining their importance to the community. Forty sites will be listed, including the graves of such notable figures as Isaac Ellwood, Jacob Haish, and Annie Glidden.
DAAHA interpreters will be on hand to elaborate on the legacies of Charlie Gunn, William Eckhardt, Henry Gurler, Isaac Ellwood, Joseph Glidden, and Jacob Haish. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the lives of these agricultural innovators and to learn more about the contributions they made to our community.
The mausoleum, dedicated in 1915, will also be open to visitors. It’s many beautiful architectural features, including stained glass windows, massive bronze doors, and Norton Blue Bedford stone walls, add to the significance of this dignified and beloved local landmark.
The cemetery is located at 1600 South First Street in DeKalb. Join us to celebrate the lives and legends of the people who laid the foundation for our dynamic and progressive community.
