The DeKalb Police Department is pleased to announce the date for this spring’s Senior Citizen Vehicle Safety Checkpoint will be this Saturday April 30th, 2016. The safety checkpoint is a FREE service provided to senior citizens through volunteers of the DeKalb County Triad and Kishwaukee College.
The event will run from 9am – 1pm at the DeKalb Township Garage, 2323 S. 4th Street across from Manning Ford. Click here to see flyer.
Due to the popularity of this event, appointments are necessary. Seniors 60 and up can call for an appointment, then bring their car to the checkpoint and receive a 25 point safety inspection. The inspection takes about 15 minutes. At the conclusion of the inspection, the vehicle’s owner will be given a checklist with the results that they can then take to a trusted mechanic so any issues can be addressed. Some of the items to be inspected include tires, fluids, wipers, lights, belts, and more.
Every senior getting their vehicle inspected will receive a free goodie bag that’s been supplied by local auto care businesses. Refreshments will be served in the waiting area. Boy Scout Troop 33 will also be on site providing free car washes (optional) for each vehicle following the inspection. This is a fun event and a great time of year to have your vehicle checked on for potential mechanical problems.
Appointments are necessary and space is limited. If you are a senior who can take advantage of this program, or know a senior who can benefit from this, please call us so we can save you a spot.
