Kishwaukee College is hosting a Retirement Open House for President, Dr. Tom Choice, this Tuesday, December 8 from 3 – 5:30p.m. in the Student Center on campus. The Open House will include light refreshments and a short program that will begin at 4:00p.m. The event is open to the public.
Dr. Choice will be retiring on December 31, 2015.
Dr. Choice came to Kishwaukee College in July 2001 as the Vice President of Instruction. In Fall 2006, when then President Dr. Dave Louis announced his retirement, the College’s Board of Trustees began the presidential search process but decided that the ideal candidate was already on campus and announced Dr. Choice as the fourth President of Kishwaukee College in December 2006. He assumed his new position in April 2007.
He built on the solid foundation he had inherited from the previous administrations and continued the work they had set in motion: to move Kishwaukee forward as a vital and integral part of the local community. He reorganized administration to be more efficient and effective in a changing higher educational landscape. He upgraded facilities so campus became eye-catching, comfortable, and student friendly. He continued to emphasize being responsive to what the people in the community needed and wanted.
He has been an active member with many community organizations and agencies including the Ben Gordon Center, Kish Health System Board of Directors, the Executive Committee of the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation, the River Valley Workforce Investment Board, and the Kishwaukee Education Consortium Governing Board. He assumed leadership roles at the state level with the Illinois Community College Board and as the President of the Community College Presidents Council.
Community members attending the Retirement Open House should enter through Door #6 from the South /Parking Lot A or through Door #61 from the North/Parking Lot B.
