Gracie and I took a short drive through the southern parts of DeKalb County. We were looking for fall colors. It was a bit early but the trip was enjoyable — especially with those apple cider cinnamon donuts.

- This tree on the river walk trail at Sannauk Forest Preserve just outside of Somonauk looks like it’s growing out of the ground on both ends. Photo by Mac with my lovely assistant Gracie Mott.
- It looks like the creek running through Sannauk Forest Preserve could have some good fishing of the smallmouth bass kind. Really nice hiking trails.
