The Northern Illinois University Department of Communication is proud to sponsor this year’s Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival, which will take place April 7th, 8th and 9th, 2015, on the NIU campus in Cole Hall Jameson Auditorium. The festival is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in film or media studies is encouraged to attend. The Reality Bytes Film Festival was created to give film students the ability to competitively screen their work.
Short fiction films and short documentaries (under 30 minutes) are accepted for submission into the festival from high school, undergraduate and graduate students from across the United States and around the world. The selected films vary in genre from comedy to drama to animation, and focus specifically on strong storytelling. Each film category will also include a “Best in Show” award. There will also be a “Best in Show” award for the high school film category. “Best in Show” awards are cash prizes. In addition, each night offers door prizes donated from local businesses.
Justin Barrett, the voice of AT&T, TVland and previous board of directors member for the Screen Actors Guild will be the guest speaker. Barrett is a man with experience in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes for networks CNN, Showtime, HBO, NBC Sports, Nickelodeon, and more. He will be the special guest speaker on the final night of the Reality Bytes Film Festival: Thursday, April 9th from 7:00pm-9:00pm.
