Update: City of DeKalb Roads to be Posted As Well:
Due to the effect of rain and the general freeze/thaw cycle experienced during the period from January to May, DeKalb streets could be damaged or destroyed by vehicles weighing in exceeds of 8,000 lbs. gross weight per axle.
Posting of the seasonal 8,000 pound per axle weight limits for City of DeKalb streets will be enforced beginning Friday, March 13th a.m. The restrictions shall remain in effect until further notice, until such time as the streets return to their normal stability.
The weight posting is for seasonal restrictions only and does not pertain to the annual weight limits on various streets throughout the city.
Permission may be granted on special occasion only from the Department of Public Works Operations, should travel be required over these posted streets. Please call Mark Espy, Assistant Director of Public Works Operations at (815) 748-2040 to request permission.
-Nathan F. Schwartz, DeKalb County Engineer, has announced that due to the “spring freeze/thaw” cycle, DeKalb County crews will have signs posted by Friday March 13, 2015. The posting will become effective at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015. The posting limits are 8,000 pounds per axle for single tired vehicles, 11,000 pounds per axle for duals with a maximum gross weight of 33,000 pounds on designated roads.
If conditions permit, allowances may be made during which movements will be allowed during certain hours. To find out it there are any “windows” on a particular day, citizens may call 24 hours a day at (815) 756-9513 for that information. Postings will remain in effect until the frost is out of the ground and the roads have settled down. By Ordinance the roads cannot be posted beyond June 13, 2015.
