No area has more well-intentioned groups than DeKalb County. People all over the county are getting into the holiday spirit early with volunteering around the community this month. Below are just two stories of many we’ve heard about.
High School and adult members of Life Missions, a group based out of Sycamore United Methodist Church (SUMC), were amongst many in the community who, this past weekend, volunteered to help pack meals for Feed My Starving Children at the Suter Company in Sycamore. Not only did Life Missions volunteer their time, they also donated $500.00 to continue to support Feed My Starving Children. For more information about Life Missions, please contact Joe Munro at 815.895.9113.
Also this November, Boy Scout of America Troop 16, chartered at Federated Church, and Troop 40, chartered at Sycamore’s St. Mary’s Church, volunteered together at Pay-It-Forward House. Scouts from both troops worked together to rake leaves, prepare the yard for winter, and helped with the final clean-up of the fall. These Boy Scouts completed service hours for rank advancement and merit badges, and enjoyed giving their time to support and give back to the community they live in.
Troop 16 meets Sundays at 6:00 pm at the Federated Church in Sycamore. For more information on Troop 16, contact Scoutmaster Tim Ruetten, at 815. 895.4940. Troop 40 meets Mondays at 7:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church in Sycamore. Please contact Scoutmaster Jeff Voigt at 630.878.1692 for more information on that troop.
