This Saturday, November 10th, join the Northwest Suburban Astronomers, in cooperation with the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District at Afton Forest Preserve for their fall Star Party. The public can look at stars, galaxies, nebulae and star clusters with the help of members of the Northwest Suburban Astronomers and member telescopes. Some of the observing highlights will be the planets Jupiter, Mars and Uranus, M27 (Dumbbell Nebula), M31 (Spiral Galaxy in Andromeda), M15 (Globular Star Cluster in Pegasus) and many other deep sky objects.
Dress warmly and bring a flashlight covered with red plastic or cellophane (red light preserves your night vision). The star party will begin at 6:00 p.m. (sunset is at 4:38 p.m. CST). You can also come out early and hike the trails. You are welcome to bring your own telescope or binoculars.
In the event of inclement weather the event will be cancelled. There is no cost to attend and no registration is required. Afton Forest Preserve is located 13600 Crego Road, south of the city of DeKalb (approximately 1 mile south of Perry Road). More information: www.nsaclub.org or their Yahoo group.
