Women in Management, Inc., DeKalb County Chapter would like you to join them for their December 6, 2011 Holiday luncheon with a presentation given by Mr. Dennis Barsema, social entrepreneur, and instructor at Northern Illinois University, College of Business.
Social entrepreneurship recognizes social problems and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create and manage a venture to achieve positive social change. Mr. Dennis Barsema will discuss his experience and history with managing this type of change along with give guidance on how attendees can be the change they want to see in the world.
Mr. Barsema has more than twenty-five years of executive experience in telecommunications, software, and optical networking. Mr. Barsema has served on the board of directors of numerous venture capital funded companies, including Redback Networks, Blue Lane Technologies, Onetta, Azanda, Telenisus, Tahoe Networks and Stoke. He is currently a Managing Partner of Chicago’s first Social Enterprise Accelerator, Impact Engine.
Mr. Barsema also serves as a director on numerous non-profit boards including Northern Illinois University Foundation, Oportunidad Microfinanzas in Mexico, NEST (St. Louis), Community Collaborative Inc. in Illinois, and Carpenters Place of Rockford, Illinois. He is furthermore an advisor to the non-profit micro-finance organization, Opportunity International in Oak Brook, Illinois, as well as the School of Business at Northern Illinois University.
