Come to the Cortland this Sunday, Oct 16th for Cortland Fall Fest. Join them for the parade at 1pm and fun in the park at 1:30pm-5:30pm, including the “mutt strut,” beer garden and live music. The 30th Annual Cortland Festival and Parade will kick off at 1:00 p.m. and will feature members of local bands, scout troops, clubs and other organizations. Participants also receive hot dogs, chips and beverage after the parade. This year the theme of the parade is “Harvest”.
Join TAILS Humane Society’s annual Mutt Strut Dogwalk as they kick off the parade. The Mutt Strut is one of TAILS’ most important fundraisers. The donations you collect will help TAILS continue to be a place of refuge and hope for pets and wildlife After the parade, TAILS will host a Fun Fest complete with canine agility demonstrations, the Sheriff’s K9 Unit, contests, and even a furry fashion show. The Parade Committee will be hosting a small festival at Cortland Community Park after the parade. Vendors will offer food for purchase. Fun for all ages. Enter a favorite apple dish in the 8th Annual Big Red’s Cortland Apple Cook-Off and win big money! Apple pies, puddings, cakes, cobblers, or cookies – whatever sweet treat you or your family loves best this time of year is eligible for entry in the cook-off, to be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, following the parade.
All you have to do is create a dish using apples (preferably Cortland variety) from local groceries or orchards. Download, complete and mail the entry form to be eligible for ribbons and prize money. Participants must drop off their entries between 2 and 3 p.m., Sunday the 16th. Judging will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the food tent at Cortland Community Park.
Recipes need not be original, but if you know the origin of the dish, include it on the entry form. Local judges will choose the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Judges’ decisions are final.
