This weekend is the 4th Annual Veteran Weekend, July 29, 30 & 31, 2011, honoring WWII Veterans and older. Location of the Veterans Weekend is at various places in DeKalb County with the central location of DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport, 3232 Pleasant Street in DeKalb. All military era encampments will be at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport, July 29, 30 & 31. There will be a Veterans Fest Motorcycle Run, starting at the Pierce Harley Davidson building on Peace Rd in DeKalb at 9am on Saturday. A Flag Ceremony will be held on Sunday at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore at 11am.
The 2011 Vet Fest Picnic is the highlight of the weekend at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport on Saturday, July 30th, from 11am – 6pm, rain or shine. There will be food, drinks, entertainment, raffles, camaraderie, and a special honor to WWII and older veterans on Saturday. Chicken dinners will be served from noon – 3pm. Entertainment will be provided by Fred & Janice Davis Karaoke, The Relics and Stoker Red.
Tickets for the Picnic are $12.00 per person, children under 10 are free and served hot dogs with chips. The public is invited, but please, no pets allowed. Purchase your tickets at DeKalb American Legion, 1204 S. 4th St., Dekalb and DeKalb VFW Post 2287/AMVETS Post 90, 421 Oak St., DeKalb.
