DeKAlb, IL: Tomorrow in DeKalb (IL) (March 26), the city will welcome a ‘Medal of Honor‘ winner to host a special event to honor local veterans from the DeKalb area. US Army Sergeant (Retired) and Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam veteran Allen Lynch will be a keynote speaker and will present those Veterans in attendance a special ‘pin’ to acknowledge their devotion, dedication, and commitment to serve this country.
Medal of Honor Day is a United States federal observance that is celebrated every year on March 25. It was created to honor the “heroism and sacrifice of Medal of Honor recipients for the United States”.
Most ‘Medal of Honor’ winners acknowledge and share this honor with their fellow veterans.
The Medal of Honor Day holiday was celebrated in 1991, when then-President George H. W. Bush signed Public Law 101-564 on November 15, 1990, which was passed by the United States Congress to honor all 3,500 Medal of Honor winners.50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration:
On March 29, we will mark seven years since The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 was signed into law, designating its perpetual commemoration like that of our other military-centric annual observances, such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. This acknowledges all military veterans who served during the Vietnam conflict. The Vietnam War (also known by other names) was a conflict in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. It was the second of the Indochina Wars and was a major conflict of the Cold War.
This special Ceremony is at the DeKalb Park District Terrace Room at 6:00 PM.
