Rainy weather halted Union Pacific Railroad’s (UPRR) initial, maintenance plans to close
the railroad crossing at the South First Street on Monday, May 21. However, the closing
is rescheduled for tomorrow, May 25. The closure will remain in place for one day from
as early as 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Staff has urged the UPRR continue communicating future maintenance on the railroad crossing to properly notify DeKalb residents. A detour will route southbound motorists east on Lincoln Highway (IL 38) to South Fourth Street and south to Franklin Street. Northbound motorist will utilize the same detour in the opposite direction. The Lincoln Highway (IL 38), eastbound right turn lane on to South First will be closed. The City asks residents to plan alternate routes. Surrounding local businesses will remain open.

They had a train stuck in town for about 3 hours today. That didn’t help with the repair schedule.
