Sycamore, Illinois – DeKalb County State’s Attorney Richard Schmack today announced that the DeKalb County Grand Jury has returned a 59 count indictment in the case of Robert Aldape, arrested on December 13, 2013 and a 15 count indictment in the case of Jeremiah Riggs, who was arrested on December 11, 2013.
The charges against Adalpe include fifty-one counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class X felony, and eight counts of Possession of Child Pornography, also a Class X felony. Each count carries a sentence of six to 30 years, and these particular charges require mandatory consecutive sentences. The victim in this case is now age six and the sexual assault charges involve numerous alleged contacts occurring over the past three years. His arrest followed a child pornography investigation by Detective Jonathan Miller of the Sycamore Police Department, leading to further investigation by DeKalb Police Department Detective Paul Mott, and others.
Riggs arrest also followed an investigation by Detective Mott. All fifteen counts against him are for Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, also involving a victim who is six years old. Consecutive sentencing is also mandatory on these Class X felonies, each punishable by six to 30 years in the Department of Corrections.
Both Adalpe and Riggs remain in the DeKalb County Jail, where they have been held since their respective arrests. Bond for Adalpe remains set at one million dollars, while Riggs has a bond of $750,000.00. While each could secure his release by posting ten percent of the required bond, both are indigent, requested appointed counsel, and are now represented by the DeKalb County Public Defender. Schmack praised the individual detectives and all police agencies involved, as well as the work of Assistant State’s Attorneys Duke Harris, Phil Montgomery, and Jessica Finley and the victim sensitive interview team at the Children’s Advocacy Center of DeKalb County.
