Tim Dunlop Retires From Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists

Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists is announcing that Physical Therapist Tim Dunlop has retired from the clinical practice effective April 4, 2016.

In 1978, Dunlop opened DeKalb County’s first physical therapy private practice, Northern Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Associates, originally located on South 2nd Street in DeKalb. As the DeKalb community and impact of the physical therapy profession in health care grew, so did Northern Rehab. In 1983, Northern Rehab expanded to a larger facility on Health Services Drive in DeKalb, then in 1995 moved to its current location on Resource Parkway in DeKalb. A second clinic opened in Rochelle in September 2001; a third clinic opened in Genoa in 2005; and in 2010, a fourth clinic opened on Lincoln Highway in DeKalb. The company now includes 10 physical therapists and numerous support staff. Six years ago, a rebranding process resulted in changing the name to Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists to reflect the clinical specializations the Northern Rehab physical therapists have developed including orthopedics, sports and conditioning, manual therapy, pediatrics, and industrial physical therapy.

This fall, the legacy that Tim built will continue as they celebrate their 38 th year in business. “I am grateful to have spent over 37 years at Northern Rehab treating patients in our community and helping them feel better so they can get back to the activities they enjoy. It has been an honor and pleasure leading and building this organization for so many years, as well as working with the great people in the community,” comments Tim Dunlop.

Tim is also very involved in the community. He served 6 years on the Board of Directors at the Kishwaukee YMCA and 9 years, including 2 years as President, on the DeKalb County Community Foundation Board of Directors. During his 6 year tenure on the Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center Board of Directors he also served as President for 2 years. Dunlop currently sits on the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors and remains an active member of the Kishwaukee Kiwanis where he has been a member for over 35 years.
